William D. (Bill) Cooney

Bill Cooney launched his career in 1982 as a field representative for Wyeth. In 1983 Bill joined the marketing department at Abbott, Pharmaceutical Products Division. Over a period of five years Bill worked in various marketing and sales management positions at Abbott, notably as Business Unit Manager for the Depakote brand. In 1987 Bill left Abbott to help start-up Discovery International, now the medical education arm of Publicis Healthcare.
In 1990 Bill founded MedPoint Communications, where he continues to serve as President and CEO. Bill has overseen the growth of MedPoint into a leading medical education and communications group serving global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. MedPoint was among the earliest digital media developers in healthcare, and innovated the TelePoint WebConferencing system in 1993, years ahead of the next entrant in the medical industry. MedPoint is continues to be an innovator in medical eMedia such as healthcare ePortals and hybrid eMeetings.
Bill has led the diversification of MedPoint into clinical research services and digital marketing services. Today MedPoint serves the top 8 global pharmaceutical companies, as well as leading biotechnology and clinical research companies. Its staff of 60 professionals operate from headquarter offices in Evanston, IL as well as regional offices throughout the US. Bill serves as Chairman of PeerPoint Medical Education Institute, LLC, a former subsidiary of MedPoint and now an independent company providing accredited medical education. He is on the Board of Directors for Healthcare Consultants International, Inc., a company providing consulting services to healthcare providers and facilities preparing for accreditation.
Bill has spoken at healthcare industry events on medical communications, and has had articles published on clinical research, digital technology, and training practices in the bio-pharma industry.
Bill has an MBA from the Fisher College of Business of the Ohio State University, and a BA from the University of Virginia. He and his wife Peggy live in Winnetka, IL with three children. His interests include collecting rare maps and tennis, sailing and skiing.
